Driver identification
The HolAzAutó Driver identification is the operation when a driver electronically proves before the vehicle use that he/she drives the given vehicle; the identification can happen by assigning the vehicle to a permanent driver or by using an RFID badge/card when starting the vehicle. With the HolAzAutó Driver identification function you can also find out retrospectively who was driving which vehicle and when; the use of the function is subject to conditions and a subscription package.
The driver identification is the operation when a driver proves before the vehicle use that he/she may drive and is driving the given vehicle, in an electronic form available in the HolAzAutó system. Using the function it is simple and quick to find out who was driving which vehicle and when.
In the HolAzAutó system a driver can use a vehicle in two ways:
- the driver assigns the vehicle to his/her user, and from then on that user always uses the vehicle, or
- the users identify themselves right before the direct use of the vehicle with the badges provided by us, or with the company's own (but by us manageable) identification system.
In both cases the driver to be identified has to have an active user in the HolAzAutó system (username and login password), and the person also has to be created, linked to the user to be identified, in the Persons module.
Manual pairing (assigning the vehicle to a permanent driver)
If the vehicle has only one permanent driver, you can assign the person who uses the vehicle permanently to the vehicle. In the Vehicles menu, click the pencil icon in the row of the chosen vehicle, then open the Pairings tab and click the + button under the vehicle–person pairings.
Here select the role of the person (Driver), then the person itself, and save the pairing.
One driver can be assigned to a vehicle at a time, and one person can be the driver of one vehicle at a time. During the set period, the vehicle position is linked to the person assigned to the vehicle.
The manual pairing also gives the opportunity to create pairings retrospectively in the past, and also to create future pairings. After creating a future pairing manually, pay attention that the RFID identification closes down all actual or open pairings! So if an RFID identification happens before the start date of the manually created future pairing, the future pairing will be closed.
After creating a future pairing, you can manually open a new pairing with a closer, even immediate start date; in this case take care of the manual closing, because the start date of the future pairing does not close the manually created active pairing automatically. When using manual pairings, do not forget to set the end date of the pairing when applicable. As the RFID identification overwrites the manual pairing, the mixed use of the two procedures is not recommended.
During manual driver or passenger identification a technical user can be generated, if the person to be assigned to the vehicle in driver or passenger role has no user. In this case the system opens a dialog box that offers two options:
- linking the person to an existing user,
- generating a technical user.
Automatic pairing – RFID identification
When using the RFID key, the pairing is created automatically. In order to use the function the driver has to have an RFID key, the device fitted in the vehicle has to be prepared to recognize the key (or keys, if more drivers use the vehicle), and has to be fitted with an RFID sensor. The RFID identification can be, and usually is, used together with the ignition restriction, when the ignition is only allowed after a successful RFID identification.
Following the successful identification, the pairing appears on the vehicle's data sheet, in the Pairings tab, in the vehicle–person pairings section, starting from the time of the identification. It remains open/active until:
- two coordinates are received after switching the ignition off, or
- a new RFID identification happens while the ignition is constantly on, or
- a new manual identification occurs on the vehicle, or
- the RFID identification is manually closed.
Using an identifier when starting the vehicle
With the identifiers created in the Identifiers menu item you can assign them to users, and the users to the devices. In this way, by touching the badge to the device, a driver identification can be created quickly and easily when starting the vehicle.
Creating a new identifier
Clicking the + button allows you to create a new identifier, which you can assign to users later. First determine the company (if your user is assigned to more than one company) that will use the badge, then give a name to the identifier. In the identifier field, paste the RFID that we send out to our users by e-mail (one RFID can be assigned to one identifier), then select the RFID option as the identifier type.
It is important to paste the RFID received by e-mail accurately into the field; preferably copy it to the clipboard instead of typing it manually, to rule out typos. However, the RFID identifiers received from the service provider do not have to be registered by the customer on the interface: the service provider does this before they are put into use. The customer only has to register the identifier if the driver identification happens in a special way (for example with a driver card).
Identifier–user pairing
After creating the identifier, you have to pair it with a user.
Important: one badge can be assigned to only one user at a time, but one user can have several badges assigned.
The driver identification badge belongs to the driver, not to the vehicle: the badge identifies the person using the vehicle, therefore the badge is assigned to the user (the driver); the vehicle is connected through the user–device pairing.
Creating the pairing from the identifier side
The pairing can be created in two ways: on the modifier screen of the identifier and on the modifier screen of the user.
In the Identifiers menu, clicking the pencil icon next to the given identifier opens its modifier screen. At the bottom of the window you find the Pairing label; clicking the + button below it creates a new pairing.
After clicking the + button, the screen that enables the pairing appears, where you can select from a drop-down list the user to whom you want to assign the badge.
After selecting the right user, save the modifications and the identifier–user pairing is created.
Creating the pairing in the Users function
The identifier–user pairing can also be created in the Users function; this part presents that method.
In the Users menu, clicking the pencil icon in the row of the right user opens the modifier screen of the user.
Here, clicking the RFID history tab lists the previous identifier–user pairings of the user. A pairing whose row has a trash icon on the left and no end date is an active pairing; clicking the trash icon terminates it, and at that moment an end date is created for the pairing, so it is considered closed.
To create a new pairing, click the + button; here you can choose the identifier to assign to the user from the usual drop-down list. After saving the settings, the pairing is created.
User–device pairing
If you have made sure that the user–identifier pairing was successful and the pairing you want to use is active, the further condition of the driver identification is that the device to be used is paired with the right user. This can be done from the device side and from the user side as well, in both cases under the Pairings tab when modifying the element in the list.
From the device side
Opening the Devices function, clicking the pencil icon in the row of the device to be paired opens its modifier screen; here, choosing the Pairings tab, you can assign the device to users.
If this message greets you when clicking the Pairings tab, contact your account manager!
From the available users, use the search bar or the scrollable list to drag (or select and click the single triangle) the chosen user, so that you can pair the device with the selected user.
Below the selector screen you can see the list of the previously paired users, where you can get information about the following data:
- Identifier
- Slot
- User
- Status – shows the current state of the pairing: not synced yet, syncing or synced
- Active – if the box shows a check mark, the pairing is active
- Created
- Modified
Clicking save creates the pairing.
From the user side
Opening the Users function, clicking the pencil icon in the row of the user to be paired opens its modifier screen; here, choosing the Pairings tab, you can assign the user to devices.

Operations – sound signal for driver identification
With the Operations button the customer can switch the sound signal related to the driver identification on or off. The role of the sound signal: if someone wants to use a vehicle without identifying himself/herself, or the tracker in the car is not taught to recognize the driver identification, a continuously beeping sound warns about it.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
? How does driver identification work in HolAzAutó?
: The driver proves electronically that he/she drives the vehicle — either by a permanent driver assignment (manual pairing) or by an RFID badge/card at vehicle start (automatic pairing). See also Identifiers.
? How can I assign a permanent driver to a vehicle?
: In the HolAzAutó Vehicles menu, on the vehicle data sheet's Pairings tab, click the + button under the vehicle–person pairings, select the role (Driver) and then the person; one driver can be assigned to a vehicle at a time.
